Sondrio & Valtellina
An elegant little alpine capital surrounded by heroic vineyards and some of the most beautiful mountains in the Alps.

The town
A historic centre made for walking
Sondrio is the heart of Valtellina: a human-scale town where everything is within walking distance. Piazza Garibaldi with its cafés, the Collegiate church, noble palaces and the Scarpatetti quarter — the old village climbing towards Masegra Castle — tell centuries of alpine history.
Between a coffee and a stroll along the Mallero stream you breathe the authentic atmosphere of a mountain capital, far from mass tourism.
Heroic vineyards
Dry-stone walls and mountain wines
Above the town climb Valtellina's famous terraced vineyards, supported by kilometres of dry-stone walls: "heroic" viticulture producing extraordinary wines such as Valtellina Superiore DOCG — from the historic Sassella, Grumello and Inferno crus — and the celebrated Sforzato.
From the trails among the vines, like the Via dei Terrazzamenti, the views over the valley are unforgettable in every season.

Four seasons
Snow, harvest, blooms and summer skies
Ski slopes in Valmalenco half an hour away in winter; flowering trails in spring; rafting and high peaks in summer; harvest colours in autumn. Sondrio doesn't have one season — it has them all.
